Undergraduate Admission
Rice: Unconventional Wisdom

Student Admission Council (SAC) assists with representing Rice University at recruitment and yield activities/events. SAC consists of five committees: Tour Guides, Lunch Hosts, Social Media and Outreach, Event Management and Recruitment, and Overnight Hosts. SAC members can volunteer on one or more of these committees and help represent Rice. Through these committees, they can share their passions and experiences at Rice with prospective students and visitors. If you are interested in being a volunteer for future events or in serving on a SAC committee, please contact ricesac@rice.edu. Be sure to include your name, college, class year, major, and the event you’d like to volunteer for or the committee you’d like to join.

Admitted Student Programs Volunteer Opportunities

The Student Admission Council and Office of Admission are looking for volunteers for Owl Days and Admit Days in April 2018. For these events, we will need overnight hosts, lunch hosts, and general volunteers. Descriptions of the volunteer roles for Admit and Owl Days can be found below. To be an overnight host, you must live on campus. If you live off campus but are interested in volunteering, you are encouraged to be a general volunteer or lunch host.

Overnight Hosts:

We need overnight hosts to commit to hosting prospective students for two nights during Owl Days: Wednesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 12. You would be expected to meet your prospective student after 3pm on Wednesday, April 11. Only students who live on campus are allowed to overnight host.

Lunch Hosts:

If you have evening commitments and cannot overnight host for two nights during Owl Days, or live off campus, becoming a lunch host is a great alternative. Lunch Hosts are primarily needed on Thursday, April 12 and on Friday, April 13 during mealtimes. You have the option to be individually assigned one or two prospective students for lunch, or assigned a group of student and/or parents as a lunch host (up to 10 Owl Days guests).

General Volunteers:

There are a variety of volunteer roles to fulfill during Owl Days on Wednesday, April 11, Thursday, April 12, or Friday, April 13. General Volunteers are also needed during Admit Days on Monday, April 9, and Monday, April 16.

Owl Days – Wednesday, April 11 – Friday, April 13, 2018

  • Owl Days is a three-day program for admitted students featuring academic panels, class visitation, tours, student-led activities, and a two-night stay in the residential colleges. Students are paired with lunch and overnight hosts to share and engage with them about the Rice student experience.

Admit Days – Monday, April 9 and Monday, April 16, 2018

  • Each Admit Day is a single-day program, featuring a student panel, an academic panel, lunch in the residential colleges, and various opportunities to meet with faculty and staff. Admit Days provide an alternative for students unable to attend Owl Days.
