Undergraduate Admission
Rice: Unconventional Wisdom

Student Admission Council (SAC) assists with representing Rice University at recruitment and yield activities/events. SAC consists of five committees: Lunch Hosts, Overnight Hosts, Tour Guides, Event Management and Recruitment, and Student Outreach. SAC members can volunteer in one or multiple committees as Rice representatives. Through these committees they can share their passions and experiences at Rice with high school students and visitors. If you are interested in being a volunteer for future events or year-round on a SAC committee, please contact ricesac@rice.edu. Please include your name, college, class year, major, and committee or event you're interested in joining.

Volunteer today! Volunteers needed for the 2017 Admitted Student Events:

The Student Admission Council is seeking volunteers for the Admitted Student Events taking place throughout the month of April. Volunteers will serve as ambassadors for the Rice community, demonstrating the best the university has to offer while showing admitted students why Rice should be their first choice.

Complete the Owl Days and Admit Days Volunteer form. Positions include general volunteers, overnight hosts and day hosts. Event and volunteer role descriptions are listed below.

Admitted Student Events:

  • Owl Days – April 12 - 14, 2017

Owl Days is a three-day program for admitted students featuring a two-night stay in the residential colleges, academic panels, class visitation, tours and many student-led activities. Students have the option of pairing with day or overnight hosts who will help show why they should choose Rice.

  • Admit Days – April 7 & 24, 2017

Each Admit Day is a single-day program, featuring a student panel, an academic panel, lunch in the residential colleges, and various opportunities to meet with faculty and staff. The Admit Days provide an alternative for students who are unable to attend Owl Days, and they have the flexibility to choose either of the dates offered.

Volunteer Role Descriptions:

  • Overnight Host: Overnight hosts house admitted students for two nights – April 12 & 13. Hosts are expected to foster a safe and welcoming environment for admitted students while sharing their perspective and answering questions about life at Rice. Overnight hosts will meet with their assigned students after 3:00 p.m. on April 12 and admitted students will depart on April 14.

Overnight hosts must live on campus. Rice students living off campus are welcome to be a day host or general volunteer.

  • Day Host: Day hosts are needed for Owl Days attendees who choose not to participate in the overnight component of the program. Day hosts help admitted students connect with student life at Rice, socialize during mealtimes and participate in an evening social activity. Day hosting duties will take place from April 13-14.
  • General Volunteer: Tasks for general volunteers include; preparation of event materials, event set-up, check-in assistance, walking students to activities around campus, campus signage set-up, serving as a lunch host and socializing with families during events. All general volunteers will be provided a free t-shirt and snacks.
